You may be surprised to learn that the more senior one becomes the less feedback one is given. This self-directed approach drives leaders to become critically self-aware and helps them develop the skills they need to constantly be improving the way they lead and manage.
Is there someone in the team who would benefit from some self-directed development and you know that a training programme just won’t hit the spot? Then coaching or mentoring (or maybe a mix of the two) could be just the solution to give desired results.
The Expert Opinion
Sir John Whitmore, in his book ‘Coaching for Performance’ says ‘building awareness, responsibility and self-belief is the goal of a coach’. Whilst Timothy Galleway in his series of books ‘The Inner Game’ makes it abundantly clear that coaching is ‘unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance..’
How it works
- There is an introductory meeting where we identify and agree objectives, issues, needs and wants.
- We hold four, 60 to 120 minute sessions, usually two to three weeks apart
- Between session there is unlimited telephone and email support
- We evaluate progress against the originally identified objectives
